Mission Statement

The Mount Vernon Magic travel softball program, like other select programs, seeks to provide an elite softball experience for girls who wish to pursue the sport at a more intense level than offered by recreational softball programs, to prepare for high school varsity participation, and (if desired), to explore opportunities to play college softball.

There are three unique aspects of the Magic’s mission.  First, the Magic was founded in large part based on the absence of quality travel opportunities in the immediate geographic area. Accordingly, while all players are welcome at our open tryouts, the Magic specifically seeks to serve players in the local Alexandria, Southeastern Fairfax County, Fort Belvoir and Route 1 Corridor areas.  Second, whereas many travel softball programs involve considerable expense (possibly thousands of dollars a season), the Magic seeks to provide a travel softball opportunity at an extremely reasonable price.  To that end, Magic teams return and re-use uniforms, conduct fundraising to pay for any travel expenses, and pursue every possible means to keep costs to a minimum.  Third, the Magic seeks to provide a travel softball opportunity for all local players who are committed and capable of playing travel softball.  Once teams are chosen, coaches and participants will design an appropriately competitive program (in the appropriate competitive “class”) for that group of girls.  Accordingly, by decree of our Board, “it is the Magic’s mission to design the program around the girls, and not the other way around.”
